When members of Bebington chose Christina to stand as their election candidate in 2012, they knew they’d be getting a long-serving and hardworking activist whose Party membership started at the age 14. What they have had over the past two terms in office is an ever-present community representative with a work ethic few across the Borough can rival.
Being elected in 2012 saw the end of an organised and well-planned campaign to make Bebington an entirely Labour ward for the first time. This though, was far from Christina’s maiden campaigning activity. You’d have to go back to the 1970s to see such a title. Campaigning for the late Alfred Bates in the former Constituency of Bebington and Ellesmere Port was followed by further activity in Wallasey, Port Sunlight and even Selly Oak.
Wherever she has been, Christina has always made an impact. Playing key roles in election teams in Wallasey, Ellesmere Port and Wirral South, General Election organising has been commonplace in Christina’s life for a number of years. It is in two particular wards, however, where her name remains synonymous.
“I was elected Chair of Clatterbridge Branch in 1982 and have been there ever since.” It’s a role that enables Christina to keep on top of any activity within Clatterbridge, aided also by her elected position as Secretary of Wirral South CLP.
Representing the good people of Bebington continues to be a year-round job for Christina. Every week, come rain or shine, Christina is taking part in community-focused activity ranging from ‘Mums and Tots’ groups to ‘Cuppa with your Councillor’ sessions and calling in on local elderly residents. Weekly surgeries take place every Friday, whilst letters and leaflets are forever in full flow. The reason for it? Simple – there’s always something to tell people! Whether Christina, Jerry and Tony are setting up residents’ groups, community initiatives or running campaigns to protect the Borough’s green belt, it really is non-stop for Bebington’s three community-focused councillors.
Christina is also quick to pay tribute to the members of Bebington Branch, whose dedication and commitment continues to benefit not only their own wards, but neighbouring areas in equal measure.
When she isn’t being ‘Councillor Christina Muspratt,’ Christina enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, walking and gardening.
